Rory Lancman Named Executive Director of LIPA Legislative Commission

On October, 5, 2022, Senator Thomas and Assemblymember Thiele, co-chairs of the New York State Legislative Commission on the Future of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), announced the appointment of Rory Lancman as the Executive Director for the Commission. Mr Lancman (pronounced “lanceman”)will be directly responsible for the leadership and daily management of the Commission. Both co-Chairs are confident that Mr. Lancman possesses the “appropriate expertise, leadership and commitment needed to navigate the Commission’s findings and recommendations.”

The new Executive Director has an admirable record of public service including years of experience working with utility operators. Most recently, he was the NYS Special Counsel for Ratepayer Protection, overseeing New York's regulated electric, gas, water, and telecom companies. Before that he was a NYS Assemblyman representing Eastern Queens and prior to that a New York City Councilmember.

Mr Lancman asserts "Long Island and Queens residents served by LIPA deserve the most reliable, cost-effective, and accountable system for delivering electric service, and I commend the legislature for establishing this commission...”
